More than 300 members of Team Dover attended the Hiring Our Heroes Military Transition Summit employment event April 12, 2018, here.

The event, which was sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as part of their Hiring Our Heroes initiative, featured 35 employers and 12 industry briefs. The goal was to help lower the rate of veteran unemployment, transition military members into civilian jobs and enhance veteran coordination across federal agencies.

“Whether you are a military service member considering transitioning, a civilian interested in long-term planning or a second career, a spouse interested in career path development, or a supervisor interested in mentoring your Airmen, the Summit offers something for everyone,” said Col. Ethan Griffin, 436th Airlift Wing commander.

The summit was aimed to help service members seamlessly transition out of the military by pairing them with successful businesses and organizations.

“[The event was] definitely a success; the feedback we are receiving is very complimentary,” said Laura Kantor-Chupp, First State Community Partnership Program manager.

The summit initiative is three-fold, focusing on the recruitment, retention and transition of service members’ careers. Some service members who attended realized they prefer to continue with their military service while others felt they now have all the tools they need to join the civilian workforce.

In addition to the industry briefs, members of Team Dover had the chance for professionals to review their resumes and participate in mock interviews. Volunteers also provided professional photos to accompany applications.

“Our expectations in attendance, program content and the variety of local and national employers were exceeded,” said Kantor-Chupp.
