The defending champions - the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron - pounded the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron (B) team to claim the 2006 Dover Intramural Volleyball title May 19.

"It felt awesome to take the championship for the second time," said Master Sgt. David Johnson, LRS coach.

The Loggies spent much of the season undefeated at the top of the National League; however, heading into the tournament they dropped to second with a record of 9 - 1. The Engineers had a record of 8 - 2 and were second in the American League.

Both teams had endured tough schedules during the playoffs.

The Loggies claimed the winner's bracket after defeating the 436th Mission Support Squadron in the first round, the 3rd Airlift Squadron in the second and finally the 436th Maintenance Squadron in the third round.

The Engineers defeated the 436th Aerial Port Squadron in the first round but lost to MXS in round two. However, they emerged as the victors of the loser's bracket, defeating MSS then the 3AS and finally beating MXS.

"We should have beat MXS the first game, but we got sloppy," said Staff Sgt. Daniel Brace, CES coach. "We didn't play like ourselves; we knew we were better than that."

In game one of the championship, the Engineers could hardly get a point on the board with an overwhelming loss of 25 - 10. In game two, the Engineers were ousted

25 - 22.

"We had overall good team play," added Sergeant Johnson. "We passed well, it all starts with passing."

The Loggies want to extend their streak to next year as well.

"We will be missing a few players but think we will be able to repeat for the third time," he said.
