6/18/2012 - DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Not only does summertime bring about warm weather, but it also opens the door to many outside activities. To help make the most of these months, the 436th Force Support Squadron's Outdoor Recreation Center has several opportunities to take advantage of, including everything from kayaking, to mountain biking, to surf fishing from the shore.

For prices varying from $15-35, the equipment, transportation and guide services are provided for servicemembers and their families. The cost also includes all safety gear necessary for the activity. All anyone really has to do is show up.

The programs are to get Airmen out to do some things they may not do ordinarily, and give them an opportunity to regenerate, to get away from work, said Chris Smith, the 436th FSS Outdoor Recreation Manager.

Starting this year, Airmen are able to suggest ideas for trips, and programs both with Outdoor Recreation and Information, Tickets and Travel. ITT has a program referred to as the "have it your way" menu, where private trips are put together as long as the buses are available. The Outdoor Recreation Center would like to follow in their footsteps following the busy season with a similar menu. However, they already provide private events for private groups, like kayaking trips and target practice at the skeet range.

"All someone has to do is come in and say 'this is what we want to do,' and we will accommodate them the best we can," said Smith.
