6/26/2012 - DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- When a recreational vehicle crashed into the perimeter gate just north of the Main Gate here June 25, 2012, emergency personnel responded immediately. But one of the first agencies to show up, and certainly the last to go home, was the engineers of the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron.
Within five hours the damaged fence-line was replaced and the perimeter secured. The dirty work was done right.
"The guard-rails and fence-line functioned as designed to stop the vehicle; the vehicle did not gain access to the base. And our Airmen performed marvelously, from the initial response of our Emergency Services personnel, to the Security Forces who secured the scene, to the Engineers who removed the debris and rebuilt the fence line, and to the Safety and Anti-Terrorism personnel who analyzed the scene for future concerns," said Lt. Col. Charles Kelm, commander of the 436th CES.
