Col. Rick Moore, 436th Airlift Wing commander, along with (from left to right) William Pippin, Steve Miller and Aaron Weisenberger, a firefighter with the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department, breaks ground on the site where construction of Delaware’s first 9/11 memorial will soon begin Aug. 15, 2013, at the Air Mobility Command museum on Dover Air Force Base, Del. The memorial is an official gift to the Air Force from the Eagle Fire Fighters Association. Two steel beams from the World Trade Center, Tower One, as well as a rock from Shanksville, Pa., will be incorporated in the monument which will be shaped like the Pentagon, representing the three locations that were effected on Sept. 11, 2001. The monument will be made from various materials including concrete, cobblestone, marble and gold-leaf; and, is slated to open to the public on Sept. 11, 2013.
