As Hurricane Florence approaches the coast of the Carolinas, Team Dover remains committed to the mission and is preparing the base for the heavy rainfall predicted. At this time, installation leadership has not ordered an evacuation of Dover AFB.

Current weather forecasts do not indicate severe weather in the local area; however, Airmen and their families should be prepared for the worst. Prudent measures include:

∙ closely monitor local media for weather updates

    ∙ secure all important documents

∙ plan possible evacuation destinations and communicate plans with supervisors

∙ have extra nonperishable food, water, medical supplies, etc.

Following any natural disaster, Team Dover understands the importance of having the right capabilities at the right place and the right time to support the needs of its neighbors, when called upon by state governors.

“We are poised and ready to assist with relief efforts if asked by our higher headquarters,” said Col. Joel Safranek, 436th Airlift Wing commander. “Please remain vigilant. Stay safe and flexible during this unpredictable time. If Dover Airmen need any assistance, I encourage you to speak up and ask for help … you’ve got an entire team to back you up.”

Dover AFB will provide updated information about extreme weather measures at www.dover.af.mil, and www.facebook.com/doverairforcebase.
