Villa Poppea
AFN Naples
March 29, 2012 | 1:47
Mount Vesuvius made Herculaneum and Pompeii disappear in a flash, leaving ruins to be discovered and explored for only centuries later. The two popular cities were not the only archeological sites in the area. Just 2 miles from Pompeii, in Oplontis, is the Roman seaside villa of Poppea, Emperor Nero’s second wife. The large site hosts beautiful frescos, fountains, gardens, and a massive swimming pool. Some say it is the pearl of Naples and MWR’s ITT makes it a fun day trip. Produced by Staff Sgt. Joseph Vigil.
