Team Dover to host Spouse Symposium

Team Dover is hosting the 2nd Annual Spouse Symposium March 7, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Landings on Dover Air Force Base, Del.

The free event is focused towards military members’ spouses who are faced with opportunities, choices and challenges during the many transitions of the military lifestyle. It is open to all active-duty, reserve, National Guard and veteran spouses, and is sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring our Heroes and the Military Officers of America Association.

Pre-registration is required and can be accomplished at www.uschamberfoundation.org/event/military-spouse-employment-forum-dover-air-force-base or by calling the Dover AFB Airman & Family Readiness at (302) 677-6930. Base access can be facilitated for those without ID card.

“This Spouse Symposium is targeted towards all military spouses,” said Laura Kantor-Chupp, First State Community Partnership manager. “They will have a tremendous amount of resources at their fingertips while attending this event.”

This occasion brings professionals from local agencies such as Base Education, Civilian Personnel and Airman and Family Readiness offices. In addition, the state offices of Volunteerism and Licensing and Certification, will be in attendance, as well as other local organizations to provide information, resources, job searching techniques, social media networking, financial information, and awareness of local opportunities.

All of the day’s events take place at the Landings and they include:
8 a.m. – Registration/Network/Continental Breakfast
8:30 a.m. – Welcome Overview
9 a.m. – Welcome Remarks by Base Leadership
9:15 a.m. – Career Panel
10:15 a.m. – Salary Negotiation or Financially Readiness
11:15 a.m. – LinkedIn and Social Media Best Practices for Spouses
12 p.m. – Lunch/Career Fair
1 p.m. - Real Spouses Real Stories
2 p.m. - Questions and Answers

Organizations that are expected to be at the symposium range from Suiting Warriors and Bay Health to the Delaware Volunteer Office and Local Staffing Agencies.
Suiting Warriors, known for giving away free business suits, is scheduled to be at the symposium. Additionally, LinkedIn style portrait photos are scheduled to be taken for those who wish to have them.

This Spouses Symposium is followed by a Transition Summit to take place April 12, with a focus on improving competitive employment for service members, veterans and spouses.
