One of two things were going to happen when the 436th Security Forces Squadron and the 436th Communications Squadron met in a rematch, either the 436th SFS would remain unbeaten, or the 436th CS would get revenge.

Revenge is sweet.

Hunter Myers, 436th CS player-coach, scored a game-high 16 points as the 436th CS defeated the 436th SFS 46-31 in an intramural basketball game Feb. 2, at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

"It felt good to get the win," said Myers. "We did not want to lose to them twice; we just wanted to be competitive. We were able to do that. It was probably the best we have played all season."

The 436th CS set the tone early, jumping out to an early 12-2 lead. After the 436th SFS cut the margin to 20-16, the 436th CS ended the first half on a 14-2 run to take a commanding 34-18 lead at halftime.

The second half proved to be more of the same, as the 436th SFS could get no closer than 12 points.

As good as the 436th CS played, the 436th SFS played its worst stretch of basketball of the season, as it couldn't buy a basket for much of the game and got no second looks on its shots.

"We were not boxing out at all and it was just a bad offensive performance," said 436th SFS coach Gordon Purdue said. "It was just an off night."

The scoring run the 436th CS was able to pull off before halftime proved to be the difference in the ball game. A timeout was the key in the run taking shape, according to Myers.

"I called a timeout, made some substitutions, and told them we needed to get rebounds and capitalize on (436th SFS) missed shots," Myers said. "It was the best stretch of basketball we played all season. We were not giving (436th SFS) second shots and we capitalized on it."

Purdue said the remedy is simple for the 436th SFS, following its first loss of the season, they need to shoot better.

"We need to hit our jump shots and get rebounds," said Purdue.

Gaining the upset victory, Myers said he hopes his team can build on the momentum.

"Any win is a positive win," Myers said. "Hopefully this win will build our confidence for the rest of the season."
