Nine children were recognized for their participation in the Dover Air Force Base Youth Center hosted the Youth World Wide Bowling event April 5 - June 25, at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

The children scored at the top of their tiers against 71 other installations and some will receive a free bowling ball, bowling bag and trophy.

"It's one of our most popular summer programs," said Roxanne Lee, 436th Force Support Squadron recreation specialist. "The kids really enjoy bowling and the teachers love to bring them down to the bowling center and bowl. It's a fun fitness program that anyone can do."

All children from ages five to 18 on Dover Air Force Base were eligible to participate in the event and did not have to be members of youth programs in order to partake of the program.

"This is our way of helping develop future bowlers," said Lorraine Padgett, 436th FSS Eagle Lanes Bowling Center assistant manager. "We provided the children with quality equipment so they could make significant achievements."

Youths registered with the Air Force FitFactor Program and families registered in the Air Force FitFamily Program were eligible to earn points toward level achievements in those programs.

The children who signed up with the program visited the Eagle Lanes Bowling Center at Dover Air Force Base at least three times during the three-month program. When the program ended, they had their scores compiled and submitted by July 15. From there it was passed on to Air Force Headquarters for comparison against other installations.

"This program has been going on for at least ten years now," said Ms. Lee. "Dover Air Force Base took several slots on the score board, we had a really good showing this year."
