Downrange: Our Airman's perspective Published July 14, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Shen-Chia Chu 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Rank/Name: Senior Airman Deondra Braden Unit: 436th Medical Operations Squadron Deployed Unit/Location: 732nd Combat Stress Control/Forward Operating Base Gary Owen Hometown: Lafayette, LA Describe your job at your deployed location: My job as the only enlisted joint expeditionary tasking Airman here is to provide Mental Health Services to nearly 2,000 joint forces members on this base. I conduct briefings and make contact with every servicemember. My provider and I fly and convoy to the nearby Joint Security Stations to meet with the Soldiers outside the wire. What was one of the most memorable experiences? On my flight to Forward Operating Base Gary Owen, we received gun fire from the ground. That same night at the base, we were rocketed. It really put things into perspective for me. There is still a war going on and people including myself sometimes take for granted what we are so truly blessed with back in garrison. How did your job at Dover prepare you or relate to your deployed duties? Thanks to the training that each Mental Health Provider and Technician gave to me, I am adequately prepared to do any facet of my job that the mission may require. How did Dover' airlift mission affect your deployed mission and/or quality of life? There are many meanings to the mission "Deliver," my job is to deliver the best patient care I possibly can, and that is exactly what I do. Those technical skills I use I learned at Dover in the world's greatest medical group.
