Downrange Our Airmen's perspective Published Aug. 12, 2009 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Rank/Name: Senior Airman James Allen Unit: 436th Force Support Squadron Deployed Unit/Location: Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar Hometown: Richmond, Maine Describe your job at your deployed location: I worked at the Desert Eagle Lounge, Dining Facilities, and flight kitchens. I worked as the shift leader for the Grab 'n Go flight kitchen. What was one of the most memorable experiences? One of my most memorable moments was when I received a coin from a Security Forces Chief because I had put together meals for his Airmen that were out on patrol. I also enjoyed meeting many new people from different bases and interacting with them. I'm also really glad I took some classes at the Chapel. It was a very rewarding experience for me during my deployment. How did your job at Dover prepare you or relate to your deployed duties? This is my fourth deployment in six years of serving my country, and I'm proud to say I am faithful to defending America's rights and freedom. I have had experience from my previous deployments and my line of work. Working with familiar teammates from my home station helped us bond to become a better force to work alongside one another. Also the Operational Readiness Exercises and Inspections helped a lot to prepare me. How did Dover's airlift mission affect your deployed mission and/or quality of life there? After talking with my wingmen we've realized that Dover Air Force Base has been improving and changing over the past few years. The base has had many changes in their programs, constructions and renovations for a better quality of life for Airmen and their families. Dover is always deploying Airmen, and the exercises that were implemented helped to prepare Airmen for the real deal, whether or not they're deployed, to get them ready for their experience.
