Dover Web site getting upgrade Published July 15, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Chad Padgett 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Team Dover is unveiling a new look for the base's official Web site, www.dover.af.mil. For frequent visitors, some of the changes will be obvious at a glance. The redesigned site features a larger layout, larger photos, new technology and less clutter. It offers users new content types with the inclusion of slideshows, new video capability, blog-like commenting on content and improved search capability. "As members of the Air Force we're always trying to stay ahead of the technology curve," said 2nd Lt. Brian Maguire, 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs officer. "The new site will have all the same features as our current site, but will streamline it and make it more user friendly." The new Web site is part of a larger Air Force-wide change under the Air Force Public Web Program. The new Web site features improved security, reduced redundancy, increased performance and standardized site appearance across the 315 sites in the program. AF.mil was the first to roll out with the new design, with the remainder of the Air Force's sites migrating to the new format before the end of 2009. According to Mike Carabajal, AF.mil webmaster, a main priority of the redesign was to re-evaluate the information on the Web site and 'trim the fat' to keep the design clear of clutter while offering more to users. The most visible changes of the redesign are the white space and the reduced links and tabs. The site also features new technology that allows users to comment on content posted on the site, embed video capability and a redesigned, customizable photo and art gallery. "As a proud member of Team Dover, we're excited to push our web site to its limits to provide the best quality possible to our readers," said Lt. Maguire. "Web based technology is fluid and always changing, and this new design will help keep us ahead of the curve." Additional reporting by Staff Sgt. Vanessa Young, Defense Media Activity-San Antonio
