Dover’s Biggest Winner Contest is back! Published Nov. 21, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Shen-Chia Chu 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 436th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Health and Wellness Center is sponsoring a squadron Biggest Winner contest Jan. 5, challenging teams to see how many pounds they can lose during the 10-week competition. The contest is based off of the TV reality series 'The Biggest Loser,' and is part of Dover's Healthy Weight Month. "Every year, people may want to lose weight, but don't have the motivational support they need to continue their goal for weight loss," said John Walters, 436th AMDS HAWC exercise physiologist. "This contest is the motivator they're looking for to lose pounds the healthy way with the help and support from teamwork and the HAWC. To be crowned Dover's Biggest Winner, six Team Dover members will need to represent a squadron and lose weight as a team. The competition is co-ed and will not include a female- or male-only category. "Each individual can lose up to three pounds a week and a total of 25 pounds," said Nicole Voyer, 436th AMDS HAWC health education program manager. "Additional pounds lost will not count." This year's competition will include individual awards, a third-and fourth-place category and optional weekly exercise sessions. "The HAWC is here to give exercise counseling for a long-term effect on weight loss for nutrition and fitness advice," said Mr. Walters. "Not everyone can achieve the same results for weight loss, but we can help individuals reach their personal goals according to their current fitness status. "This is about changing your lifestyle for the rest of your life," he said. The deadline to sign up is Dec. 22. The contest ends March 13. For information or to sign up, call the HAWC at 677-3733 or Nicole Voyer at 677-2680.
