AAFES Policy Published Nov. 10, 2008 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Question: The Army and Air Force Exchange Service claims to have a price-matching policy where they will match the lowest regular price on an item. I was at the BX recently, and I asked the cashier to ring the soda up at $1.25, which is the lowest price you can pay on base, instead of the marked price of $1.49. I was told they had to ring up the price marked on the cooler. Instead of paying more, I went outside to the vending machine and purchased one for 24 cents cheaper. Why has AAFES decided to not honor their price-matching policy? Answer: AAFES owns the product in the BX, as well as the vending machine. So I'm at a loss as to why AAFES can't "price match" themselves, or why they would sacrifice customer satisfaction for 24 cents. I've expressed this view to local AAFES management, but have received no valid explanation. I'll update this column if and when I get one.
