BHOP available at DAFB Published Aug. 25, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Zachary Cacicia 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Behavioral health services are available in Air Force primary care clinics, providing a multitude of services for beneficiaries. The Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP) is located within the Family Health Clinic of the Dover AFB Medical Clinic. Team Dover's BHOP is headed by Dr. Tracey Frazier, 436th Medical Operations Squadron internal behavioral health consultant, and Lawrence Brooks, 436th MDOS behavioral health care facilitator. "The Behavioral Health Optimization Program is available to all beneficiaries within the primary care clinics as part of overall good health care," said Frazier. "The purpose of this service is to offer assistance when habits, behaviors, stress, worry, or emotional concerns about physical or other life problems are interfering with someone's daily life." BHOP services are not considered mental health treatment. Mental health treatment is a specialty service, and BHOP is a consultation service within primary care designed to target any issue affecting optimal functioning. It is similar to when a primary care manager refers a patient to a cardiologist, orthopedist, dermatologist or other specialist when needed. The service provides tools and help for a number of topics, including but not limited to: coping with personal stressors, getting better sleep, managing anxiety and worry, tobacco cessation, weight loss management, improving mood, and coping with chronic illness or chronic pain. For more information about BHOP services or to schedule an appointment, please speak with your Primary Care Manager or contact the Family Health Clinic at 302-730-4633.
