Lieutenant Gen. Carlton D. Everhart II, 18th Air Force commander, spoke about his admiration for Team Dover while here to officiate the 436th Airlift Wing change of command, August 15, 2014.

Before handing the reins of leadership to Col. Michael Grismer from Col. Rick Moore, the general spoke about his observations of DAFB and a few issues of interest to Airmen.

"This base, this community is outstanding," he said. "It is a pillar of what the Air Force can rest on."

A major item of interest to Airmen across the Air Force is the recent transformation of the enlisted evaluations and promotions system. The general shared his thoughts about the recent modification.

"I welcome this change and it is something that our Airmen have asked for," the general said. "It is a system that will be really good when it rolls out. Sure, there will be things that need to be refined. But as much work that has gone into this brand new promotion system, I think you'll see things get better in promotions as we develop our Airmen."

The general said his visit was a great opportunity to talk to Team Dover Airmen about some of the changes coming up in the future for 18th Air Force.

"As far as force shaping, 18th AF will always answer our nation's call and we will do so fervently to defend and support America," he said. "My advice to Airmen and their families is to become educated. Understand the programs that are going on and understand how it affects you. Bring that information and your questions to us so we can remove any roadblocks in your way."

The general said that the 18th AF is a strong organization because of the professional Airmen that belong to it. He shared some simple advice for anyone who wants to be successful.

"Bloom where you are planted." The general said. "Think out of the box and think of better ways to do things and continue to grow. Be bold and be innovative. If you have to take risk, do so safely but look at what can be changed. Look at our processes and make them better. That's what it is all about, that's how you become successful."

The general concluded by praising the Airmen at DAFB.

"This has been a great visit," he said. "The Airmen here set an example for the rest of the Air Force. Keep striving for that greatness because the hard work does not go unnoticed."
