PLAYpass program available to Team Dover Published July 12, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Jacob Morgan 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- A new program for deployed servicemembers with families and single Airmen returning from deployment began May 27, 2011 at Dover Air Force Base, Del. PLAYpass is designed to give qualifying members a break from the long days of deployment through learning, recreation, exploration and help with child care. "PLAYpass has great activities for everyone and has a lot of free programs," said Sue Holliday, 436th Force Support Squadron Airman & Family Readiness Center director. The PLAYpass cards contain specific dollar coupon blocks, which can be applied to programs at various 436 FSS locations. The different activities specify the amount of discount. Deployed servicemembers with families qualify for discounts on Information, Tickets & Travel trips, Outdoor Recreation, classes at FSS locations and hourly child care. Single Airmen who have returned from deployment qualify for discounts on ITT trips, Outdoor Recreation and classes at FSS locations. Single Airman are also allowed to bring a friend for these discounts. Discounts of $160 are available when split into four different lessons or classes at the Aero Club, Golf Course, Oasis Pool or the Arts & Crafts Center. Discounts of $225 are available to do things such as bowl, play golf, or play paintball at Outdoor Recreation. Discounts of $100 are available to use at ITT and Outdoor Recreation. "It's a wonderful and supportive program. It allows military family member discounts on movie tickets, trips and theme park tickets within 106 mile radius of Dover AFB," said Cheryl Brown, ITT recreation specialist who also participates in the program. Also, Servicemembers with families also qualify for 10 hours of free drop-in care at the Child Development Center or the Youth Center. All-in-all the program, if used to get all discounts, is worth more than $450 for the servicemember and their family. The Dover AFB A&FR has already handed out more than 100 cards, but they would like to help more families and single Airmen, said Ms. Holliday. The program is scheduled to end Dec. 31, 2011, and the A&FR center will be handing PLAYpass cards out at pre and post deployment briefings. However, if a servicemember or their family qualifies and haven't received a card yet, they can stop by the A&FR during business hours. "The program is a nice thank you to our returning single servicemembers and servicemembers with families for hanging in there and being brave day-in and day-out while they were deployed," said Ms. Holliday.
