When it comes to getting packages to their destination safely and efficiently, these Airmen deliver the goods. They are the Knowledge Operation Managers at Dover Air Force Base, Del.,'s Official Mail Center, responsible for processing Team Dover's incoming and outgoing mail.

"It's our job to make sure everyone on base gets the information they need to do their job," said Airman 1st Class Elaina Girone, 436th Communication Squadron knowledge operations manager. "If mail isn't delivered on time or to the correct location, people's jobs can really be disrupted."

The OMC staff accomplishes this task and more on a daily basis. Not only are they responsible for collecting and distributing mail to most agencies on base, they also maintain base records, help manage the Electronic Information Management systems, and ensure Team Dover is safe from any illegal or suspicious packages.

"We thoroughly scan packages in order to keep the base safe from threats," said Airman Girone. "We're the base's first line of defense for potentially dangerous packages."

They are challenged further when the base increases its security level. In those situations, OMC staff handles an increased workload in addition to stricter scanning practices.

"We deal with almost 10 times the packages we normally handle when the base is on elevated security status," said Airman Girone. "It's definitely a challenge to keep the operation running smooth."

It's a challenge these Airmen continue to meet, said Staff Sgt. Joan Frantz, 436 CS noncommissioned officer in charge at the OMC.

"Though we have a small, young staff of Airmen, I have total confidence they will accomplish their mission," said Sergeant Frantz. "They make their work more than simply a job."

The Airmen share similar feelings. To the OMC staff, their performance is a source of pride.

"We're aware of the importance of our job every day," said Airman Girone. "When there are no late or missing deliveries and everything is documented and filed correctly, we can feel proud of a successful workday."
