Have a safe, happy Halloween Published Oct. 31, 2008 By Col. Steven Harrison 436th AW commander DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Happy Halloween Team Dover, and congratulations on the terrific work during this week's Major Accident Response Exercise! In fact, this was the first base-wide MARE since March of 2007, so we are a bit rusty. Nevertheless, the effort put forth during the exercise was tremendous, and even more impressive was that Team Dover did this while still accomplishing the mission. Over the next couple of months, we'll have several more opportunities to practice. MARE's aren't fun, and they aren't easy, but realistic practice is the only way to ensure we are properly prepared for any major accident, attack, or act of nature. So please review the results from our Exercise Evaluation Team members, and aggressively examine your processes...it's important for the UCI, but it's even more important to ensure we are ready to respond to any base emergency. Next MARE is in late Nov...so get up for it! Happily, after all of the hard work this week, Dover Airmen will have the chance to spend a night of fun with their loved ones this evening! The 436th Security Forces Squadron will implement Operation Goblin tonight in Eagle Heights. With Halloween on a Friday, and Eagle Heights almost at capacity, tonight's trick-or-treating will be busy. Let's work to make sure it is a safe and fun time for everyone! And on the topic of fun, please don't forget the Third Quarter Awards Luncheon today at the Landings Club. Success is all about a relentless focus on excellence, and our award winners embody excellence. Congratulations to all our winners...you deserve it! Also, if you've never been to the annual Officer Spouse's Club Craft Show at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, you are missing out! It's huge, it's fun, and it's for a great cause...scholarships for Dover's children, support for our Airmen, donations for our Annual Awards Ceremony, and much, much more! And one last note: Go Air Force, Beat Army! Striving for excellence, enjoying a safe and fun weekend, and giving Army the beat down...all great reasons to be part of America's Preeminent Expeditionary Airlift Team!
