Hard hats and hard work Published May 10, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Samuel Taylor 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- When it comes to getting the job done right, they hit the nail on the head. They put a roof over the head of Team Dover, keep the temperature comfortable for them to work, and keep their facilities running smoothly. They are the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron, and the projects they take on keep the base going and growing. "We face different challenges with each job; the feeling of overcoming each challenge and finishing the project is what keeps me coming to work every day," said Airman 1st Class Allan Flores, 436 CES electrical systems specialist. The latest challenge undertaken by 436 CES is renovating the Honor Guard facility, located at Building 205. The updated facility will feature new electrical fixtures and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. In addition, a new locker room will be added to the old structure of the building. By raising the ceilings and extending the floor-space, the Honor Guard's practice area has been nearly doubled. "With its extended training areas and easily-cleaned interior, this new facility is definitely tailored to suit our needs," said Tech. Sgt. Eric Bailey, 436th Force Support Squadron Honor Guard noncommissioned officer in charge. 436 CES uses Airmen of various specialties, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical wiring and construction experts, to accomplish missions like the Honor Guard renovation. The collaboration of each specialist results in a multi-faceted team, ready to tackle a project start to finish. "The Honor Guard facility renovation is this year's Prime Base Emergency Engineer Force project, which are designed to keep Airmen prepared to do their job while deployed," said Master Sgt. Tracy Johnston, 436 CES project noncommissioned officer in charge. When the CES Airmen are not working on a major project, they are constantly in demand, doing various jobs around the base. The size of the job does not affect its value. With their work on display in nearly every facility on base, the 436 CES remains one of Team Dover's most active agencies. "After working a day with [436 CES], I'm completely drained," said Airman Flores. "But there's nothing better than the feeling of a job well done."
