Arkansas National Guard Earthquake Drill
119th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
May 18, 2011 | 1:44
From May 16 to 19, the Arkansas National Guard participated in a multi-state and multi-agency earthquake preparedness drill as part of the 2011 National Level Exercise. Arkansas is one of eight states that would be affected by a powerful earthquake along the New Madrid Seismic Zone. Geological experts have said that any quake higher than 6.8 would devastate a large portion of the nation’s central and mid-west areas. Throughout the week-long exercise, Guard members were deeply involved in casualty evacuation drills, reaction to a simulated train derailment with chemical spill, commodities distribution via helicopter and inter-agency command and control.
