DoD Acquisition Revolution
Airman Magazine
May 15, 2019 | 4:25
Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) out of Mountain View, California, is contracting with companies offering solutions in a variety of areas – from autonomy and AI to human systems, IT, and space – to solve a host of defense problems. Due to the minimal funding for research and development, the DoD is changing their business model and partnering with the commercial market to civilian technology into the military.
The Defense Innovation Unit has launched an acquisition program, HACQer. It selects DoD acquisition professionals for a four month assignment. It teaches new ideas about how to acquire technology in a way that’s not traditional for the Pentagon. Then they go back to their units to share the knowledge they obtained at DIU.
