U.S. Army Pfc. Dylan Carmody joined the Vermont Army National Guard in his junior year of high school to be a supply specialist. His recruiter noted that he had a qualifying Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score to apply to West Point. After completing basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, he applied to the United States Military Academy Preparatory School and accepted. Carmody reported to the Academy on July 20, 2020.
