NHHC Conserves 9/11 Gift from German Forces

Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) reflects on the events of 9/11 by showcasing a gift from the German destroyer FGS Lutjens (D 185) to the crew of USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81). Lutjens' sailor made a banner from a bedsheet saying, "We stand by you," after the attacks. The sheet was donated to NHHC in 2020 and remained preserved by the command's conservators.
