There were 200 paddlesport deaths in 2016, and the number of paddlers is on the rise. The Coast Guard urges everyone to take basic safety precautions before leaving shore. Wear your lifejacket, file a float plan, have a reliable way to communicate on the water, and bring a signaling device with you.
