Air Force Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy, commander, U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) during an aerial assessment of the Hurricane Florence-affected region with the "Black Nights" of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 264 in an MV-22 Osprey. VMM-264 are embarked aboard amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) with elements of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit. Under the direction of U.S. Naval Forces Northern Command, Kearsarge, USS Arlington (LPD 24) and embarked elements of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit were deployed ahead of the hurricane and followed it in to provide Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA).
