Rio Puerto Nuevo - Upper Margarita Channel

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began diverting water to newly constructed Upper Margarita concrete channel on the west side of Puerto Nuevo River in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The flood control project seeks to alleviate future inundations that affect the important commercial zone as well the as the residential communities of Puerto Nuevo and San Patricio. Construction on the $18.5 million flood control project began in August of 2014 and is expected to be completed later this year.
