QF-16 Aerial Target from Tyndall Air Force Base, FL, Jan. 27, 2017. 00:54-08:24 - Lt. Col Ronald King, 82nd Aerial Target Squadron Detachment 1 commander, flies the first local QF-16 Aerial Target sortie at Holloman Air Force Base, NM, Feb. 10, 2017.
The QF-16 is a full-scale aerial target that's modified to fly with a pilot for training, or to fly remotely for live missile testing. The QF-16 Aerial Target introduces fourth-generation fighter capabilities to the aerial target mission. The QF-16 replaced the QF-4 Aerial Target, which flew its last unmanned mission Aug. 17, 2016. The flight on Feb. 10, 2017 represents the official start of the QF-16 program at Holloman Air Force Base, NM.
