MAINTENANCE RETURNS TO THE WADI FAIDH IRRIGATION CANAL
Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve
May 13, 2018 | 1:47
Ahmad Hijazi, project manager for the Wadi Faidh irrigation canal project, describes to the Department of State Syria Transition Assistance Response Team Forward how their team cleared 10 kilometers of vegetation from the canal bottom in the Sal Habiya region, Syria, May 13, 2018. The cleared area benefits more than 22,000 people who rely on the canal for their crops and livestock. Canal maintenance is required approximately every three years to prevent flooding that damages nearby crops and soil; however, maintenance came to a halt prior to Operation Roundup and the defeat of ISIS in the area. The now free-flowing water is a positive step toward local farmers returning to normalcy. (U.S. Army b-roll by Sgt. Brigitte Morgan)
