Dover Airmen encouraged to watch, report, & protect

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. --  Vigilance is as important today as it's ever been and it is every Airman’s duty to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity when they see it. The Eagle Eyes program plays a vital role in protecting personnel and the base.
The Eagle Eyes program is an Air Force anti-terrorism initiative that enlists the eyes and ears of Air Force members and citizens in the war on terror. According to their website, Eagle Eyes teaches people about the typical activities terrorists engage in to plan their attacks. Armed with this information, anyone can recognize elements of potential terror planning when they see it.
"Eagles Eyes is not limited to law enforcement personnel; everyone is a sensor. Your eyes and ears are critical tools in the fight against terrorism and crime to keep Dover Air Force Base and the surrounding communities safe,” said Lauren Almond, Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 306 commander. “Be aware, be alert, and report suspicious activity."

Being aware of the following common indicators can assist in potential attacks:
- Someone recording or monitoring activities
- People or organizations attempting to gain information about military operations whether it’s through mail, internet or in person
- Someone or an organization testing security by making attempts to measure reaction times to security breaches in order to assess strengths and weaknesses
- Suspicious persons out of place, could be people who don’t seem to belong in a workplace, neighborhood, business establishment or anywhere else
- Witnessing people being put into position, mapping out routes and/or monitoring the timing of traffic lights
- People acquiring supplies, such as purchasing or stealing explosives, weapons, ammunition, timers, detonators, uniforms, badges, flight manuals or any other controlled items

Dover Airmen are responsible for reporting suspicious activity, but the base depends on our local neighbors as well. “Our partnership with the community and local authorities is key to keeping Airmen, our base and the local community safe,” said 436th Security Forces Commander Lt. Col Michael Morales.
When reporting suspicious activities to Security Forces please take note of the location, time, equipment, size, type of activity and description of appearance for those involved.
