The 436th Airlift Wing legal office announced new appointment hours for legal assistance and process of wills at the base legal office beginning April 30.

The legal office will be available for walk-in legal assistance Mondays from 8 - 10 a.m. and Friday for legal assistance by appointment only. Wednesdays from 9 - 11 a.m. will be reserved only for one-day wills by appointment only.

"In the past, our customers have come several weeks at a time just to get all their documents in order for the drafted wills to be approved," said Capt. Khela Von Linsowe, 436th AW assistant staff judge advocate. "Now that we've implemented the one-day will, our customers will be able to walk out of their appointment with a finished product.

"By training and utilizing our manpower efficiently and effectively, our paralegals can now assist in the initial drafting of wills with attorney supervision," she said. "This will allow the attorneys to focus on other legal issues."

The captain said the one-day will has been made possible through Team Dover volunteers.

"Our paralegals have typically served as witnesses in the will signing process. However, through our good relationship with the Retiree Affairs Office, we've recruited volunteers like Peter and Christine Hunt, to serve in the witness position," said Captain Von Linsowe. "Now the paralegals can focus on drafting wills and processing other legal matters.

"Not only do they act as our signing witnesses, they also help do clerical work. The retiree volunteers have helped for nearly a year to make our process more efficient to serve Team Dover customers and have saved us approximately 172 man hours," she said.

With this new change, Lt. Col. Wes Moore, 436th AW staff judge advocate, believes it is in every Airman and family member's best interest to complete the paperwork for a will.

"It may be uncomfortable to think about, but Airmen owe it to their families to plan ahead in the event the unexpected happens," said Colonel Moore. "Many events such as marriage, divorce, a change in financial status, the birth of a child or the loss of a loved one can impact an existing will in an Airman's life."

"Take a moment Wednesday and come by our office. Your wills can be easily processed in one day," continued the colonel. "Our mission is to better serve and provide Team Dover members with legal assistance so they may perform their mission without distractions."
