Right-hander Jason Hogan was a scary sight on the mound and on the bases Monday night when he led his Loggies to a 24 - 12 victory over the 436th Aerial Port Squadron.

Hogan threw a complete game and went 4 for 5 on the offense with two singles, a double, a home run, banging in three RBIs.

The 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron scored 14 runs in the first inning, which set the tone for their eventual mercy-rule victory after the sixth.

In the bottom of the first, the Porters responded to the Loggies' 14-run rally with a solo home run, smashed out over left field by Preston Harrell. Unfortunately for APS, Harrell's homer was followed by three subsequent outs.

"I am amazed," said Loggie Kelvin Carter after the first inning. "We scored 14 straight runs. It's over now!"

The optimism was shared by opposing Kevin Pace of the APS.

"We can come back," said Pace describing the 13-run deficit. "It's not really that bad."

Indeed, the Porters fought valiantly to come back. The second inning was scoreless for both teams. However, the Porters capitalized on the third and fourth innings, slugging in a total of eight runs to the Loggies' two in the fashion of a home-run derby. Preston Bolen and Luke Piro each hit home runs and Jestin Keesee hit a triple.

The Port continued the home-run derby in the fifth and into the final inning with a second homer by Bolen and one from Chris Horning.

Kyle Daugherty and Carter each had a home run in the fifth for LRS.

The game's highlight came in the top of the sixth inning when Porter Robert Graves walked two and allowed a hit, which loaded the bases. Daugherty stepped up to the plate. Graves released the pitch ... and, smack!

In a spectacle that could be seen at a major-league ball park, Daugherty smashed a grand-slam homer sealing the Porter's fate.

"You've got to level the playing field," said Daugherty commenting on his grand slam. "I've hit about 20 home runs this year, but this is my first grand slam. I was tired of hitting single and double RBI homers, so I went for the big one."
