The Central Delaware Chapter of Habitat for Humanity has selected Robert and Linda Baldwin as the next recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home in Kent County.

Mrs. Baldwin has worked at the Child Development Center here for the past 11 years.

"We are excited about the selection of the Baldwins as our next partner family," said Michael Braun, Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity's Board of Directors president. "One of the great things about our program is that we seek out hard working, deserving families and the Baldwins certainly fit that profile. We feel great about helping people like them."

The Baldwins are currently raising their teenage grandson in a small mobile home in Lincoln. Mrs. Baldwin said being selected for this opportunity is beyond her dreams.

"I was at work when I found out; I was so excited," she said. "I said let me pinch myself, and then I just kept repeating over and over, "I got the home! I got the home!"

The chosen family is even more pleased about the new home's location near Wesley College in Dover.

"We have to commute at least 25 minutes everyday, and the older you get, the more challenging driving at night can be," said Mrs. Baldwin.

Looking forward to that quicker ride home, the Baldwins are pooling their family members together and recruiting as many volunteers as possible to help build their new home, with a major portion of the funding provided by Lowe's. The house is expected to break ground in July or August.

This particular home to be built in Dover is unique in the fact that it is a 'Women's Build' project, which is part of an international program that encourages women and girls to have fun and make a difference by building homes and communities.

Men are still encouraged to volunteer, as there are many facets and duties on site where help will be needed.
