8/7/2012 - DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. --
Name/rank: Airman 1st Class Ian Gonzalez

Squadron: 436th Civil Engineer Squadron

Job description: Emergency management

Dream assignment and why? Anywhere in Europe because I've never been there; I've always wanted to travel to that region. There is a lot of great history and culture (plus food) that fascinates me. It is one thing to read about it in books, and then another to actually go there and experience it.

Family: Dad, mom, an older brother and older sister.

Favorite movie: "Black Hawk Down"

Favorite food: Barbecue

Favorite book: "The Red Wolf Conspiracy," "The Ruling Sea," and "River of Shadows," by
Robert V. S. Reddick

Who inspires you? My parents

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I would like to have achieved the rank of master sergeant, or captain if I decide to pursue getting my commission as an officer. As far as other goals, I want to earn a bachelor's degree in biology or other field of science, as well as a master's degree in history. Being an instructor is something I enjoy, and I would like to get a slot at Silver Flag or as a Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadre. I may even consider doing recruiting. Starting a family of my own will likely be in the picture as well.

Airman 1st Class Ian Gonzales is our shop's "go-to" guy. Anything that has to be done, he gets done-no questions asked. One of his greatest qualities is when given a project, or faced with an issue, he does his own research, and delves into the Air Force Instructions and technical orders to find the answers. He is an excellent instructor and a dedicated professional in the emergency management career field. At the same time, he is a stress-reliever for the shop. When someone is stressed out, you will always find Gonzales saying something hilarious that brightens the mood of anyone within earshot. He is extremely active within the community, as he volunteers for almost every opportunity that comes his way.
