736th AMXS nabs first-round win Published May 15, 2012 By Tech. Sgt. Chuck Walker 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 736th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron volleyball team looked to dominate during their first-round playoff victory against the 436th Operations Group. Tim Hellmann led the way for the 736th AMXS as they swept the 436th OG 25-12 and 25-18 on May 14, 2012, at the Fitness Center on Dover Air Force Base, Del. Hellmann had nine kills as the 736th AMXS moved on to the winner's bracket in the double-elimination tournament. "These guys came together," said Jon Lu player-coach with the 736th AMXS. "The passing and hitting were on point. I think we have a good chance of going places this year." In Game 1 Hellmann hit four kills and Lu added three as the 736th AMXS cruised to victory. Hellmann slammed home five kills in Game 2 and served two aces as the 736th AMXS completed the sweep. Hellmann said his teammates deserve the credit for his good play. "It takes a lot of patience and a lot of practice to be a good hitter," said Hellmann. "We had great team play passing and setting. If you don't get those, the hits aren't going to happen." 436th OG player-coach Chelsea Weller said her team will try to bounce back in the loser's bracket. "We played the best we could," said Weller. "We were missing some players due to the mission. Hopefully we can pick it back up in the loser's bracket. We've done it before." Hellmann said if they can keep things going like they did against the 436th OG, they will be successful the rest of the tournament. "It's always great to get that first win, it sets the tone for the rest of the playoffs," said Hellmann. "We played well together. If we stay focused, put the games away, and keep playing like this, we'll be successful." With the 436th Aerial Port Squadron A team, the 436th Medical Group and the 436th MXS all being successful this season, Lu said the road to winning the title is going to be tough. "The competition is better this year," said Lu. "There is a lot of tough competition. It's going to make for an interesting end to the season."
