Team Dover builds camaraderie during Wingman Day Published Nov. 21, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Kathryn Stilwell 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Wingman Day kicked off Nov. 18, 2011, at Dover Air Force Base, Del. The focus was reinforcing the wingmen concept among Airmen through resiliency. It was a day to renew camaraderie -- a day where Team Dover took a step back to look at the bigger picture. Wingman Day is set aside twice a year to strengthen bonds between Airmen and remind them to look after each other. It's a chance to step back from work and participate in team building exercises. "It's an opportunity for us to take care of each other on a basic level. We take care of each other on a daily basis, but this allowed us to have some fun. It was a chance to build the camaraderie," said Master Sgt. Tracy Boucher, First Sergeant at the 436th Security Forces Squadron. The day started off with briefings, emphasizing ethical practices. Several agencies closed to accommodate the briefings and opened later in the day. For example, the 436th Civil Engineer Squadron had two-hour team building exercises following their briefing, which consisted of examples and open discussions on resiliency. In one example, everyone passed around a toothpick. One lone toothpick could be broken by hand, but when several were passed around, together they withstood the pressure. Open discussions included overcoming personal obstacles within the military. The 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron came together in a team-building exercise to build the tallest tower. They were sectioned off into groups and were given supplies, such as tape, candy and plates. Each was instructed to build a tower as tall as possible. Though they started off separately, the goal was to come together and utilize their supplies for one large tower. Together, Team Dover came together, not only for fun, but to build on the already existing camaraderie.
