1st Lt. Edward Mitchell sets the standard to follow at the 436th Contracting Squadron. He is my team lead and a warranted contracting officer, overseeing the work of four contract specialists in the purchase of services and commodities contracts. For the first quarter of 2011, he was directly responsible for the execution of 13 contracts valued at $1.6 million. He also serves as a trainer for individuals on his team and a mentor for the military members in the squadron. He is a quiet force; always stepping up to any challenges placed before him. In the absence of the squadron commander, he stepped in and oversaw day-to-day operations of the 38 member squadron while maintaining his team lead/CO responsibilities. Lieutenant Mitchell is also involved in community outreach participating in the University of Delaware's career day, counseling 50 Reserve Officer Training Corps students on life-changing decisions. Additionally, he directed a Martin Luther King Jr. event, attended by approximately 800 people, and was lauded by city leadership. Lieutenant Mitchell is well deserving of this recognition.
