Survey results aid base improvement Published Jan. 18, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Jacob Morgan 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The Air Force will begin conducting the 2011 Community Assessment Survey Jan. 25. Team Dover members who are selected will be able to make their opinions and needs known. The results of the survey will be used by the Air Force and base leadership to target resources where they are most needed to enhance the well-being of the community. "This survey helps show what is important to the community at Dover Air Force Base," said Lamonte Wilson, co-chairman of the Dover Integrated Delivery System Working Group. In addition to general questions about needs of the Dover community, there will also be questions regarding local leadership and what is going well, and what is possibly being missed, said Mr. Wilson. The survey will be taken from January through April with results back to Dover in September. The results will be transformed into a Community Action Plan, or CAP, which will be presented to the Dover IDS Working Group. The plan will outline any changes or improvements Dover AFB can take to make the community a better place. "Overall the CAP helps to enhance existing programs or focuses on developing new initiatives," said Mr. Wilson. "The goal is to strengthen the Dover community by increasing participation in local programs." In the past, Dover has taken results from the survey and put them into action with programs like Leadership Pathways, a series of classes intended to build personal development and leadership skills for servicemembers and their families. The survey results have also contributed to the continuance of other programs such as Give-Parents-A-Break, which supports families by providing free child care once a month for spouses of deployed servicemembers. Twenty-five percent of service members, spouses, reservists, spouses of reservists and civilians are scheduled to receive the survey. With only a representation of the community being targeted, in the survey process, it is important for the recipients of the survey to have a voice in Dover AFB's community decisions.
