Dover gets visit, photos with Santa Published Dec. 15, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Matthew Hubby 436th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Despite the cold and windy weather, 150 Team Dover families lined up to have their picture taken with Santa Claus on a C-17 Globemaster III Dec. 5. The event began at Grotto's Pizza in The Landings Club. After registering, the families were taken by bus to the flightline. "We had no issues getting people out to the plane," said Master Sgt. Verna Ford, 436th Force Support Squadron readiness non-commissioned officer in charge. "We had so many people volunteer to be flightline escorts that the event was effortless." Maj. Jason Fick, 436th Communications Squadron commander, brought his family out to see Santa and have their photos taken. "We went last year when Santa was on a C-5," said Major Fick. "My three boys and daughter loved it; it was an opportunity for them to be in a C-17, talk to Santa Claus and Airmen from the 3rd Airlift Squadron." The event brought in twice as many people this year, said Sergeant Ford. "Even though there were more people than expected, the event ran seamlessly and went better than we could have expected." The Airman & Family Readiness Center is planning to make the event a yearly affair. "We started it in 2009 and it was a hit," said Sergeant Ford. "We followed it up with the event this year, which was outstanding. We are hoping to make this an event Team Dover can look forward to every holiday season." "We would definitely do this again," said Major Fick. "I just want to give everyone who put this on a big thank you."
