Go Cold Turkey with The Great American Smokeout Published Nov. 10, 2010 By Nancy Zabaga 436th Force Support Squadron DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The Great American Smokeout is an annual day set aside to encourage tobacco smokers to go 24 hours without smoking a cigarette. This year, The Great America Smokout is Nov. 18. The American Cancer Society sponsors the event and provides assistance and resources to help smokers quit for good. The Health and Wellness Center will also celebrate the event by challenging tobacco users, smokers and chewers, to go cold turkey. Tobacco users are invited to stop by Subway (near the Shoppette) between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Nov. 18. There will be discount coupons for Subway sandwiches, free cold turkey sandwich samples, give-away items, and information on quitting tobacco. There will also be a special guest at the event -- Ciggy, the six-foot cigarette. "If there's one thing a smoker needs in order to quit, it's moral support, mostly from friends and family. Here at Dover we are a family and that's why the HAWC offers programs to help tobacco users quit. I urge any tobacco user to contact the HAWC for help to quit tobacco for good," said Lt. Col. Christopher Borchardt, 436th Aerospace Medical Squadron commander.
