AMC Icon contestants shine during competition Published Aug. 11, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Shen-Chia Chu 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Dover AFB hosted a one-night Air Mobility Command Icon competition at The Landings Club at 6 p.m. Aug. 5, 2010. AMC Icon is an initiative based loosely around the "American Idol" TV show to showcase the vocal talents of AMC communities in a karaoke-style competition. Dover Airmen brought their vocal talents to the stage, but only one contestant advanced as the base's finalist to the AMC-level competition. Senior Airman Naomi Scott, 436th Maintenance Squadron, was the winner of this year's event performing 'Cowboy Casanova' by Carrie Underwood. "I chose this song because Carrie Underwood is one of my favorite singers and it's an up-beat, sassy song that's a whole lot of fun to act out!" said Airman Scott. "This really feels amazing, I have to say this year was a lot of fun." Senior Airman Alexandria Yeddo, 436th Communications Squadron, garnered second place, and Airman 1st Class Shen-Chia Chu, 436th Public Affairs, took third. "The Dover AFB AMC Icon showcased 11 vocal talents of active-duty Air Force vocalists who performed to more than 200 people, making this an overwhelming success," said Frank Russo, 436th Force Support Squadron Community Activity Center director. "The scores were very close for the contestants. The second and third place winners were separated by only one point, and all the vocalists brought forth outstanding talent for this competition." The top three winners were awarded cash prizes that was a grand total of $1,000 and Airman Scott will move on to the AMC - level competition at Scott AFB, Ill. "I've been to the competition at Scott AFB before and I know the routine, so I think I have a good chance to win and I definitely feel more comfortable this year," said Airman Scott. "But there was a lot of great talent there the first year I went so, we will just have to wait and see!" "I love the thrill of the competition and everyone was very sincere and just all around really nice," she said. "I just wanted to thank everyone that came out and supported this competition. I know it meant a lot to me and I'm sure it meant a lot to the other contestants!"
