Dover Air Force Base will host the Air Mobility Command Icon base-level competition at The Landings Club Aug. 5 at 6 p.m.

Team Dover vocalists age 18 and older who think they have what it takes have the opportunity to step up to the stage and belt out their favorite tune in front of the judges and take home some cash.

Each base will award a total of $1,000 and the AMC Finals awards $2,000, but only one Dover Airman will have a chance to compete against other contestants from AMC bases at the final competition at Scott AFB, Ill.

"This is a wonderful event and great venue for our Airmen, spouses and dependents to showcase their singing abilities," said Frank Russo, 436th Force Support Squadron Community Activity Center director. "The event brings hidden talents in every day people who would not ordinarily have a chance to showcase their abilities."

The command-level competition began three years ago to spotlight the singing talents within the AMC bases, and two Airmen from Dover proved they had talent, winning awards as each represented Dover for the past two years.

Tech. Sgt. Letisia Eddy, 436th Security Forces Squadron, took first place in the 2009 command- level competition and Senior Airman Naomi Scott, 436th Maintenance Squadron, took second place in the command level of the 2008 competition. At that time she was Airman 1st Class Naomi Nadeau.

Sgt. Eddy has also been selected to be a vocalist as part of the current 2010 Tops In Blue team.

Talent runs in the blood of Dover Airmen and this popular community event draws nearly 100
people to be part of the cheering crowd, explained Christian Lantry, 436th FSS Community
Activity Center assistant director.

"Events such as AMC Icon and Tops in Blue reveal another side of the military members serving
our country that aren't as apparent as the uniform they wear - they have passion and talent in
many areas," said Mr. Lantry. "Our events merely attempt to provide a suitable platform for
those who've elected to put on the uniform a chance to individually shine in their own special
way."

Mr. Lantry says it takes five months in advance to plan for an event such as this, to make sure the audio, lighting and staging area is in top shape for a performer's special night.

"My greatest hope is everyone will have a great time and enjoy themselves, leaving the
event with a smile," said Mr. Lantry.

Participants need to register by July 30. Practice rehearsals will be conducted 6 p.m. Aug. 4.
