Broadening the Arts in Dover will be open to the public June 12 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Air Mobility Command Museum.

The event is free for spectators and will feature demonstrations from various forms of art, many will be for sale and display.

"We are hoping that art appreciators, as well as artists come out and enjoy this first ever event," said Xan Salas, 436th Force Support Squadron Arts & Crafts director. "This event is to bring all forms of art together to provide community networking, entertainment and to help guide prospective and emerging artists. It is important to provide the community with the resources for pursuing their desires artistically.

"We want to provide Kent County an array of different forms of art, from visual, to performing to culinary delights," she said.

Broadening the Arts in Dover is a collaboration of the Arts in Kent County to provide opportunities to emerging and professional artists, as well as art appreciators.

"This event is a great idea, it will help bring artists together in the community," said Shondra Thorne, 436th FSS Arts & Crafts Center recreation assistant.

Some of the featured activities include: exhibits, demonstrations, educators in the arts, musical entertainment, storytelling, vendors, hands-on art projects for children which focuses on utilizing reused materials and encouraging interaction with the natural environment.

Ms. Salas is a professional artist herself - painter, sculptor, silversmithing and potter, with a strong educational background in Fine Arts, as well as extensive experience in exhibiting.

"I would not survive without art in my life, I live it and breathe it," said Ms. Salas. "I am intrigued with many forms of art, visually, musically, performing and culinary. Art is the foundation of record keeping and historical preservation of this world."

She is currently represented with the Agora Gallery in Chelsea, New York City.

"Museums and books are filled with artistic pieces to entertain the senses. When I find myself uninspired, I like to visit galleries and museums to get myself back on track," she said. "I am very excited to network with all of the other artists and am looking forward to the entertainment."

There will be a professional story teller, belly dancers, clay artist demonstrations, silversmithing, painting demonstrations and workshops, music ensembles, bands, dancers, galleries and more. Culinary delights and vendors will include: jewelry vendors, photographers, woodworkers, the Bigg's Museum, paintings, pottery, metal crafting, German food, ice cream, pastries and more.
