It's story time! Library offers storytelling for children Published March 19, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Shen-Chia Chu 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The Base Library is offering Library Story Time for Team Dover and their families every Wednesday. Children under the age of six are welcome to attend this free, weekly event at the Base Library in Building 262 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. "Our major goal in children's program is to introduce them to the value and pleasure of books and Story Time is one of our events," said Richard Krueger, 436th Force Support Squadron Base Library director. "Story Time gives children exposure to reading at an early age, which will help them develop a love for reading from childhood to adulthood." During Story Time, children will be read three stories by a library technician, they will make a craft and have the opportunity to play games or sing-along to songs. Children make, and take home, their hands-on activity so they can remember their trip to the library. "Story time isn't just about reading, this is a starting point for children to interact with each other during activities, which will help prepare them for pre-school or kindergarten," said Wanda Lingham, 436th FSS library technician, who has had previous childcare experience and has beenĀ a Story Time storyteller at Dover Air Force Base for five years. "I love children and I enjoy spending time with them and seeing the excitement on the children's faces as they listen to the stories. We encourage all children to come and join us for Story Time." Parents do not need to sign up in advance, they are welcome to attend and play along with the class. Parents can also make suggestions for the theme of the week and books they would like for their children to hear. "In addition to providing fiction and non-fiction juvenile collections, the library conducts a variety of programs aiming to meet the needs of DAFB youth," said Mr. Kreuger. The Library Summer Reading program will begin June 14 through August 7. Children starting at age 12 and under are able to receive a prize for every 10 books they read. Participants must register in advance at the library. For information, visit http://www.doverafbservices.com/baselibrary.
