The goal of the Ruck March is to remember the United Nation soldiers that fought at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in Korea. The Battle of Chosin Reservoir was fought between Army Lt. Gen. Edward M. "Ned" Almond's X Corps, comprised of approximately 20,000 Army and Marine Troops, against 120,000 Chinese troops. "I am excited to be a part of a great organization to help promote the memories of our fore-fathers," said Staff Sgt. Savannah Little, 436th SFS. "The Ruck March gives those participating, volunteering and supporting the runners a sense of accomplishment and family ties." After 17 days of fighting in sub-freezing temperatures, the X Corps broke free of the Chinese lines after inflicting more than 40,000 casualties, while the American forces suffered approximately 15,000, approximately 2,500 were killed in action, 5,000 were wounded and 7,500 suffered severe frostbite and other cold injuries. "The Ruck March reminds us that when we work together, we can overcome what may seem like impossible odds," said Sergeant Little. "It's an exciting competition to see who is going to come through and win, and it's always nice to work with different squadrons and organizations to pull together and create this great event." The Ruck March is a four man team 6 mile march wearing a 30 pound 'Ruck pack' starting at the Air Mobility Command Museum. Teams are able to register for the event by calling Staff Sgt. Dale Adkins at 677-6314 before March 20 for $50. The day of the march, teams can continue to sign up at an increased fee of $60.
