The 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine is now available for 436th Airlift Wing active-duty Airmen, military retirees and dependents. The vaccine is mandatory for active-duty Airmen and strongly encouraged for all retirees and dependents older than 6 months of age.

"Influenza is unpredictable, but the flu is expected to continue for months, caused by either 2009 H1N1 viruses or regular seasonal flu viruses," said Lt. Col. James Cowan, 436th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Public Health flight commander. "The 2009 H1N1 vaccine is the best way to protect against the 2009 H1N1 pandemic virus."

The 436th Medical Group Immunization Clinic will administer the vaccination to individuals with identification cards during Mon. - Fri. from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. It is closed the second Tuesday of each month at noon for training and federal holidays.

For more information, call the Immunization Clinic at 677-2478 or 677-2681.

(Patients who are immune-compromised, have an allergy to eggs or latex, or a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome will need a prescription from their physician to receive the flu vaccine).
