H1N1 flu shots available in limited supply Published Dec. 2, 2009 By Staff Sgt. Chad Padgett 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 436th Medical Group currently has a limited supply of the H1N1 flu vaccine and will be giving shots to select populations. The select populations include 436th Airlift Wing Active Duty personnel, dependants of Active Duty, retirees and dependants of retirees. "The priority groups for the vaccine include pregnant women (active duty, dependants, retirees), people who live with or provide care for infants under six months old (dependants, retirees), children and young adults 6 months through 24 years old (dependants) and 18 through 64 year olds (active duty, dependants, retirees), who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications" said Lt. Col James Cowan, 436th Medical Group public health flight commander. No appointment is necessary for the flu shot. Eligible Team Dover members can get their shot at the Immunization Clinic on the 3rd floor of the 436th Medical Group building. "Our walk-in vaccinations help ensure our Airmen's health is taken care of so it doesn't hinder their operational readiness to accomplish the mission," said Staff Sgt. Dari Moore, 436th AMDS NCO in-charge of the Immunizations Clinic. The vaccine is in limited supply, but more is expected to be shipped to Dover. "Vaccine for 436th AW active duty personnel who are ineligible to receive vaccine at this time will be arriving at a later date from the Department of Defense," said Colonel Cowan. "Personnel must receive the H1N1 2009 flu vaccine from the 436th MDG when it becomes available. Active duty personnel may not receive the H1N1 flu vaccine from civilian healthcare providers." The Immunization Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The 436th Medical Group closes at noon on the second Tuesday of every month for training and is closed on federal holidays and base down days including Wingman Day, Dec. 4.
