Race ready to prepare runners for Air Force Marathon Published Aug. 19, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Matthew Hubby 436th AW Public Affairs DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The Fitness Center is hosting the 'Summer Sizzler,' a 10 mile race and 5 kilometer run, Aug. 29 at 8 a.m. at the Eagles Nest Picnic Area. The run was designed to help runners train for the Air Force Marathon. "I am looking forward to this 10 mile run," said Master Sgt. Marshall Stafford, 436th Communications Squadron Network Operations section chief, who was chosen to run as an alternate for the Air Mobility Command Air Force Marathon Team. "It will be a good opportunity to gauge my overall fitness level. The race should give me a good ballpark of what pace I should be able to run for the upcoming AF Marathon." The 'Summer Sizzler' is the base's first 10 mile run. "I'm very hopeful about this event," said John Murray, 436th Force Support Squadron Fitness Program manager. "I think this is a great training opportunity for those interested in heading out to the Air Force Marathon. Even for those who don't think they can run 10 miles, we have the 5 kilometer run. I think they will be surprised at what they can accomplish if they try." A $7 entry fee must be paid at the Fitness Center before participation. Any Department of Defense ID holder can participate.
