After playing three consecutive volleyball games, the 436th Aerial Port Squadron team finally hit pay dirt and defeated the 436th Force Support Squadron May 5 at the Fitness Center.

The Porters won two out of three matches, making them the overall winner.

"I'm confident that my team will do their best to win," said Gary Leffew, 436th APS coach, before the start of the match.

Leffew considers his team the real winners, not the individuals who played on the court. "We can't rely on just one player who is great on the court. Each player we have gives it all they've got. That is why I am confident in our success."

"There are no 'VIP' players on the team, everyone gets to have a chance to play," said Leffew. "It's important to use each member on the team because we all have different strengths and weaknesses to achieve victory. We could not have won without each member of our team."

The Porters practice twice a week, according to the coach, and their record of seven wins and four losses is proof their performance is improving with practice.

Fellow teammate Blazej Masiak, 436th APS assistant coach, agreed about their winning team.

"Our strategy is simple - to get out there, play and win," said Masiak.

The 436th FSS won the first match 25-14, but dropped the next two matches to the Porters.

"We have strong team cohesion," said Michael Manchester, 436th FSS player. "Good communication is the way to win in any situation. Not only do we incorporate skills of working well together on duty, we work well together as a team off-duty."

The coach had his own comments.

"There was some confusion during the second-half of the game," said Opas Lorboon, 436th FSS coach. "Our team's weaknesses were minor - we were not staying in position and crowded too much in certain areas."

Though 436th FSS tried to make a come back to win the overall game, the Porters were determined and victorious in the end.
